Out of all the original big three of Teutonic Thrash this band here has somehow aged better than the other two. All I can say about SODOM is whatafuck? As far as KREATOR is concerned well their last one was decent but still it was supposed to be a return of old and it wasn't close. DESTRUCTION has had some problems over their 25 years of existence (various line-up changes and what the hell was up with that cover of the KNACK's "My Sharona" from 1990's Cracked Brain?) Some how they've actually been consistent in putting out releases which fall under descriptions like good, great and of course essential thrash. Their last one 2008's D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N. was surprisingly pretty fuckin good. It was the audio equivalent of a jack boot kick to all the Thrash Revival new jacks. Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer (vocals & bass) and Mike Sifringer (guitars) were literally saying "hey kiddies if you like Thrash well then taste our German Steel". Yeah I know that's the title of MOONBLOOD's classic release but screw you it works here.
So here I'm am with this new one and the opening cut "The Price" starts off with the sound of a timebomb ticking away. DESTRUCTION literally explodes forth with a this humongous power as if your world has been destroyed with a giant head bang. That's followed by "Hate is My Fuel" which will be a great crowd shout along to song, like 70,000 at Wacken. The fact is that every track on here is packed with aggression. The band has literally reached back to recapture alot of that past fury which made Infernal Overkill, Eternal Devastation and Release from Agony essential DESTRUCTION releases. New drummer Vaaver is a perfect fit behind the kit with his skills. The production on here is perfect. The performances are perfection since the band adds so many tempo changes throughout that it's not one continuous thrash zone but one where you need to pay attention to throughout. Biggest highlight is their cover version of DIO's "Stand Up and Shout". As far as Thrash goes in 2011, the old guard is back with a vengeance and Day of Reckoning proves it.
